Here is what I have been working on in Glass. I started making glass stands from bent mandrels that I can no longer make beads on. Lots of people love my work but don’t feel comfortable wearing it. So her is my solution…. Collectables
My Mom has been in town and she is really getting into her art so I decided we needed to take some classes at Whim So Doodle in St.Petersburg. Lo and behold the wonderfully talented Dina Wakley was in town. I signed us up for three classes. They were great and I learned so much and played with so many yummy supplies. We did Gelli Plate printing and then a anything goes printmaking. And the last class which was my personal favorite the Art Folio. Some of the techniques she taught were very freeing. If you ever get a chance to take a class with her I recommend her highly. You will learn oodles of great things!
Here is some of my work from the Class.
I also had another very successful Trunk Show on Facebook! I won’t have another show for awhile. I will be on the waiting list for a couple of months till I can get back on the Calendar. I missed the last date. I am also adding new pendants and focals into my Etsy store link is on the sidebar or at the bottom of my blog. I hope you come over and check out the new work.
Recently I was taking two classes at Whim So Doodle in St. Pete with Joanne Sharpe. Both were Free Motion Quilting techniques. Joanne said to me that I was talented at everything that I do. I was a little startled by that statement. I by no means think I am talented at everything I do but I have heard it before so it made me stop and think.
My Mom told me a story not long ago about when I was young. She had entered my Brother and I in a drawing contest at (if I remember the story correctly) Holy Spirit Hospital. She said when they were announcing the winners that I was perched on the edge of my seat ready to run up on stage the moment my name was called. She said I just knew that I would win something and as it turns out I did. I think I have tapped back into that feeling now as an Adult. There are NO MISTAKES in art feeling. That create with abandon feeling we used to get as children but went away as we grew up and were told that we were doing it wrong. I gave up drawing and painting for a long time because I was told by a College Professor that he had no clue how I got accepted to Art School because I sucked. I thought to myself well then it is a good thing that I came here to make jewelry. Well those that see my art now are surprised that I gave it up for so long.
I think my point in all this is that I have become Fearless. Especially when I am learning something new. I just go for it. Last weekend was no different at Whim, I went for it with Free Motion Quilting and I am so happy with the results that I am now looking into getting a sewing machine. I loved the process and this is the second time I have taken a class from Joanne. She is an amazing teacher!
So try to quite that voice in your head that tells you “You Can’t” because YOU CAN! And just GO FOR IT! I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised with the results when you get out of your own way.
The rest of the year just flew by! I can hardly believe it is 2015 already. I kept intending to update my blog but then got distracted by life… the best intension right?! Well I had a Fantastic 2014! My Beads are selling like crazy. I fell in love with Jamberry nails and started selling them as well. (www.dizzyloves.jamberrynails.net) Here are two of my all time favorite Jamicures so far.
I have been doing some Trunk Shows on facebook and the response to my work has been so incredible. I am so blessed to be able to do what I love. Also I have been doing a show every second Saturday in my neighborhood. So lots of stuff going on!
Last year I also started to do EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique. And it has helped me in so many ways. Some of the Art that I have produced after sessions have been some of my all time Favorite work. Here is one of my favorites.
Let see I was also in the Tradewinds newspaper in St John USVI for painting my fathers Land Rover. There is a big movement going on in Coral Bay right now to get plans for a big Mega Yacht Marina thrown out. Check out #savecoralbay for more information. But here is the finished piece.
I also rescued another black kitty. We have named her Lopo. But everyone calls her the Ghost… because she is very skittish and avoids everyone but me…. and even then if I go to pick her up she is off like a shot. But she has come a long way from when we first brought her home. She is beautiful and getting so big!
I think that about covers it I will end this post with pictures of my most recent bead work. I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them!
Happiness is for me waking up to a kiln full of creations. Coffee is a close second in the morning…LOL! But when I pull my work from the day before out of the kiln you can’t wipe the smile off my face. I have to rush them into their beauty routine right away to get them ready for their closeups. Basically getting them off the mandrels, clean out the bead release from the holes. The best part is putting the pieces together into a pendant. Reveling in each new girl and her personality. They are all unique and beautiful in my eyes. This morning I pulled four girls from the kiln. Here they are in all their uber cuteness!
I have also been creating my own stencils this week. I am teaching at Whim So Doodle this Saturday and my second class is creating a Mermaid Canvas. I decided to make some stencils available for students to use for the body. I will show them how to draw a body, but for those who just need a little confidence builder! I am super excited to see how they work out for the students. I still need to cut two of them. Stay tuned for updates after the class!
So in my last post I talked about the evolution of my girls. My last statement was about a Frida Kahlo version of my mermaid. Well they have been selling as fast as I make them! Who knew? LOL! I should have as I was gifted a tin one at a fabulous painting retreat I went to last year with Flora Bowley. My first one looked really pissed off. I have gotten all sorts of funny responses as to why… including she is pissed I gave her a muffin top. Too Funny!
Right now I am not updating my Etsy store because I have a show coming up and I need inventory. So if you see something on my blog or on my Facebook Page (Dizzy Bead) please let me know. If it is available I will let you know or I will make you a custom one to your specifications. Also for some reason I updated my worldpress and lost the sidebar on my home page. I have manually put it on my blog posts. Sorry for that confusion!
I try to be happy and grateful for all I have everyday. I wake up and go over all the things I am grateful for in the morning. I have an amazing view from the windows in my bedroom. The other morning I saw two river otters frolicking along the banks of the pond out back. How awesome is that! Today I woke up to find out that two orders I placed are arriving tomorrow! My brand new business cards I ordered from Moo! And a large order from Fire Mountain Gems. Can’t wait to see my new business cards.
On the Bead front… I have been trying to get Custom orders done along with pendants for my upcoming shows. Again I was asked to make things I was not sure I could pull off but boy was I wrong! I am super pleased with the results! I was asked to make a girl with a sewing machine and another with a baseball theme. Which again goes back to believing you can and you will.
I was so pleased with how the sewing machine girl turned out!
Here is my Baseball themed girl for the Yankee fan.
I also did one for my Niece who recently celebrated a birthday. She had a purple stuffed hippo that she adored as a child. I took some liberty with the coloring on the hippo as I think it was purple/ivory… I used pink instead. I hope it evokes beautiful memories of her childhood.
I have been a torching fool getting ready for my first ever big “Festival” Here are some of the beads I have been producing…
Oh and I almost forgot I received my brand new table banner.
Okay enough rambling for the day… thanks for taking the time to visit my blog! Oh and I have added a Subscription link to my home page. So if you don’t want to miss anything please take a minute to subscribe and Thank you!
Seems I am addicted to stencils lately! My stash is growing and growing. I have been airbrushing everything in sight. My Art Journals are awash in bright Dye Na Flow colors. I recently joined the Stencil Girl, Stencil Club. Why Not Right?! Here is the start of a Journal Page for a Round Robin I am doing. Love the explosion of color!
On the Bead Making front….. I have been busy with Special order “Sleepy Time” girls with some Mermaids just because. Have I told you yet that I am addicted to mermaids? LOL well I am… Here are a few pictures of recent beads that I have made.
If you would like to see video of me creating… I have a YouTube Channel. Check it out. I get told by people all the time that they had no idea how these beads were made.
So I have decided to get away from a website that takes up much of my time and switch to a blog. I don’t have to worry about FTP and if my computer goes belly up trying to reinstall everything and figure it all out again! LOL they don’t call me Dizzy for nothing. So a little about me I am a glass bead artist. I entered the world of Lampworking in 2006 and have been going strong ever since. This blog will feature my work in Glass as well as my Art Journals and Mixed Media.
Mermaid feature quite a bit in my work. Here is a series I am currently working on called “Learn To Swim”. It features Mermaids with floaties! How cute is that!!!!
I am also working on a line called “Sleepy Time”. Which are Little girls in Footie Pajama’s holding their favorite stuffed animal.
On the Mixed Media side I recently completed this canvas for an upcoming class that I will teach at Whim So Doodle in St. Petersburg.
